ESOL 2010

ESOL 2010

The highlight for me this year was when I started learning an instrument.

The challenges for me this year was my English's Formal Writing.

I enjoy ESOL because it is easy and there is no extra-hard work for me to do.

I found it useful because I get to know people from different classes.

The friends I made were all have different personalities.

Their names were Dolly, Lunar, Euniece, Melissa, Anna, Victoria, Bridget, Amy, Riley...

The best thing about NZ is that I got to know a different country.

The most importat thing I learnt was life at NPGHS is better than last year.

The thing I will remember most about this Year in NZ is all the happy memories I have.

I am looking forward to my holiday in NP.

Bing Ying

Esol 2010

The highlights for me this year in Esol were meeting most of the international students. when we had international lunch time. Most of year 9 Esol student brought their own country's traditional food. I couldn't bring my food because I live in hostel and I don't know how to cook them... hahaha so I really enjoyed the lunch. They all tasted good.
The challenge of this year for me was learning English and being used to living in New Zealand. It's still hard for me to use English, but I'll learn more and improve my skills.
I enjoyed Esol beause I had lot's of fun in this class and I like to see other Esol classmates. They were sll so funny and nice. my classmates are Dolly, Bying Ying and Euniece. I hope I could see them next year in year10 esol class.
I found Esol class useful because, my Esol class teacher Mrs.Kindler taught me lot's of English words and grammer. She also helped me when I need help in my other subjects homework. So I would like to say thank you to her.
The friends I made in New Zealand were Halam, Jiwom, Yejeong ,Anna, Amy, Jaslene, Bamboo, Eunice, Dolly, and Bying Ying.
Most of friends have left New Plimouth. Because they graduated from the school. And most of them are international students.
The best thing about hostel is, water is free, you can have quite a nice dinner and breakfast, and make good friendships with other hostel girls.
The thing I will remenber this year is coming to Nz and meeting all good people.
And at last, I'm really looking forward to go back to Korea for summer holiday~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lunar Yr 9

Euniece's year in N.P.G.H.S 2010

The highlights for me this year were when my school report seemed so good and I have many friends in my new school (npghs) I really like being in this school. My challenges for me this year were I needed to relate to some of my classmates and to be familiar in the school. It was really hard because I'm from a different country and it's kinda awkward to introduce myself to them. I enjoyed ESOL because I made new friends I found it useful because I relate to some of my friends and I learned to love them. The friends I made were so amazing loving caring and so understanding their names are " Aira, Dolly, Lunar, Bing Ying". The best thing about being in New Zealand with my family are being so desciplined and very happy. The most important thing I learnt was to relate with other people from different countries. The thing I will remember most about this year in N.Z is to enjoy the environment . I am looking forward to have a great, peaceful and happy life in New Zealand.

International Student Leavers

We sadly say farewell to 11 International students (pictured here with our principal) at the end of term 4, 2010. At our farewell function students performed dances, gave slideshow presentations and told us how much they had enjoyed their time here with us. There were a few tears.
We loved sharing our beautiful country with you all. We hope you keep in touch by using the 'Past Students' place on the blog to post pictures and stories about what you are up to back home. All the best :)

My last holiday during my stay in New Zealand AYANO 10WD

I went to Rotorua to meet my friends, I had lots of exams and did some activities from 27th to 30th of September. I had a very special time with my friends over there. We went to the agrodome and hot springs for activities! The sheep were so big and so smart in the agrodome. I was surprised! But it didn't smell good there. The hot spring was so nice! The water was nice and warm! I want to go to there AGAIN!! And we had Japanese meal for lunch, it was so delicious! I dreamed about eating my mum's meals. I'm so hungry for Japanese food.

I had exams. They were so hard. I couldn't do it very well. But never mind :) That's ok! haha

I talked about lots of things with my friends every night. I didn't sleep very well, but it was so fun! I took so many photos with my friends!

I will never forget about my last holiday during my stay in New Zealand!

My last holliday

Last holliday, I went to Wellington with my friend and we stayed in my Uncle' house. Everything in Wellington is so different there. There are many buildings, many people walking on the road and a lot of shops everywhere. We went to the famous building in Wellington - Beehive, it is awesome and really beautiful. There are many buses from the cheapest to most expensive, and we tried the most expensive bus which had the internet. We went shopping, bought some clothes and shoes. We tried to drink 'momo tea' (Chinese milk tea) - It was so good and tofu, chicken' wings and the chocolate ice cream that had been freshly made. We met some new friends there and we took a lot of photos and had fun, we still keep in contact with them. My friend and I will go back to Wellington one day.

First Impressions of " NZ* "

I'm going to talk about " What is my IMAGINATION " before I came to New Zealand.

I imagined NZ's ::
Population : not much or normal.

The weather : It's nice.

Climate : cold but no snow.

Personality : have to or must be on time
not late.

Social : Maori says " Hi " by Nose to Nose

Food : eat a lot of SEAFOOD.

Now I came here and I found that something is true. Just something. but it's not when it is raining. " The Food " They don't eat a lot of seafood even if the sea is around because the SALARY is very HIGH. Another part of my imagination is as I thought.

Therefore, I conclude that

NZ* is a very nice country or place for traveling for a short time, some things are exactly as I thought.

PS. " NZ has got something special that you will never know if you don't come. "
BaMBoO

My first thoughts about nz

I'm going to write about what I thought before I came to New Zealand. What I thought about New Zealand was a very quiet country and many animals for example I thought New Zealand had many grass-coverd plains so there were many sheep or cows and many horses. But I couldn't see that many sheeps or cows. Maybe I think it's not true.

I thought New Zealand weather was sunny always. But NZ weather is rainy sometimes. I don't like rainy days. I thought New Zealand had beautiful beaches. I think New Plymouth's black send beach is very beautiful. I like New Plymouth beach!! I thought New Zealand had lots of Korean food. But New Plymouth just has a little bit of Korean food. It's very expensive. So New Zealand is same as what I thought.

-anna kang-

My first thoughts about NewZealand :).....Linh

Before I came here, I didn't know much about NZ, I just imagined in my mind about NZ where it has a lot of animal and special Kiwi birds. I saw on the TV many horses, cows, sheep....And I knew that different kind of people are living in NZ: Maori people. They're the first people who lived in NZ.
In NZ, the weather is a little different than in my country. It's really windy and rainy in the winter. I can't walk or ride bike because it's very windy, but you can see a lot of rainbows here, they're ususally in the sky when it's raining and sunny. In summer, it's not really hot just 26-27 degrees. My uncle told me that in winter it's very cold and rains so hard that I don't like it. The Kiwi fruit made me so supprised because I haven't seen it before and I really wanted to try it. The first thing I was very worried about was the education in NZ. I was very happy because I just had to choose 5 subjects and school went from 8.40 to 3.20. Now, when I came here, I know everything is true...

Mid-Autumn Festival - Mooncakes (Kiwi Style)

At the end of last term we celebrated Mid-Autumn Festival (22nd September 2010) by making (and eating) some Chinese Mooncakes. Well, they weren't quite as professional as the real thing but they tasted yummy. Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated as part of the lunar calendar and the little mooncakes are supposed to look like the moon. As you can see we had fun!

Here's the simple Moon Cake recipe from
Ingredients:
1/4 cup sugar
2 egg yolks
1/2 cup salted butter
1 cup self raising flour
1/2 jar jam (or red bean paste - traditional)
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 190 c
Mix butter, sugar and 1 egg yolk and stir
Mix in flour
Put dough into one ball and wrap in glad wrap
Put in fridge for 30 minutes
Take out and unwrap
Make small balls in the palms of your hand
Make a hole in the centre with your thumb
Fill hole with jam or bean paste
Brush each mooncake with egg yolk
Bake for about 20 minutes or till edges are slightly brown
Yum Yum!!

Matilda - Bingying

I recommend the book "Matilda" by Roald Dalh to the children who love reading.
The book is related to Fantasy as the main character has special magic powers.
It is about a girl name Matilda Wormwood, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Wormwood, younger sister of a boy name Micheal. Matilda is smart, very smart, but her parents care about nothing but themselves, her school headteacher dislikes her. But Matilda is way too smart to be treated like a freak, smart people have smart ideas, a series of humour revenge start to do its job.
The story is easy and pleasant, it relaxes people by showing people the punishment set upon bad people to let them get what they deserve.
"Matilda" tells children bad people get bad endings, good people get good endings. It also teaches some preschool kids how to do the two times table, and how to spell "cat" and "what".
P.S:I expect the movie to be great.

MATILDA! by euniece! :P

Matilda is a really good movie i think!
This is the first time i notice that some parents are really bad.
This is a book of fantasy i think! Because matilda can lift up things using her eyes! However this story tells us about money either! because her parents are so obesess with their money. And they're always leaving matilda alone! Thats very irresponsible thing do! and they don't care about their children! But in someways Matilda is so lovely girl coz she is really clever and that why Miss Honey likes her so much and she is really respecful to others and she was also a very great example to some children. She had a great talent and she can do heaps of different things that we can't do. A nd we can learn more things about this story! :)I hope you can watch or read the story of Matilda to know about the really clever girl like us haha!
I recommend this book because its really great to know and about some really clever child.

Matilda by Dolly ..

It is kind of magic book or fantasy. It is a really nice book . It is about a girl named Matilda who has the power to move things with her eyes. She was so clever. Her parents don't care about her. She went to school late bacause her parents forgot to send her and her head teacher Miss Thunchbull is really bad and she loathes children and her class teacher is Miss Honey and she is very nice. Poor Matilda is ignored at home she escaped to the world of reading and exercising her mind so much she develops telekinetic powers. For more read the book.In conclusion I would like to say that this is a very good book it make you escape in to the world of reading so please enjoy. You can read and also see the movie.:)

*FLY AWAY HOME* yuka:D

I recommend this book because I think it is a really nice book!

This is a story of a little girl who tried to fly 16 geese to Canada with her Dad and her friends. This is easy to understand for us.

Also the movie was so nice! Amy was a good girl, cute and strong but I like Susan too because she is kind to Amy :)

I think this book has some messages. Maybe it tells us if you have some big or tiny problem which is hard to do but if you try it again , again and again ...you can do it!!!

Mother hood and Isolation is the theme of the book.

In conclusion... I like this story which makes me happy also when Iwas reading at home I was comletely absorbed in this story!!

Thank you:)

Fly Away Home AYANO 10WD

I recommend this book because I cried a lot. It was impressive .

I watched just half of this movie, but the ending was so great .

Because Amy who is a little girl , flew from America to Canada by herself and the 16 geese !

She wasn't afraid to fly alone. She is a very strong girl , I think .

I got a message from this movie. Which is '' Never give up.''

Because Amy didn't give up.

I agree with Amy 's Dad's opinion, he decided that Amy flies alone with 16 geese because he had dislocated his shoulder. I think his judgement was correct.

Fly Away Home-linh

I recommend this book because it was very interesting. It is a story about Amy- a little girl found a nest of goose' s eggs and she teaches them to fly without their mother. This story is telling us need to protect animals, bravery and creativity are good things, nothing is too hard for you and you can do it. The language in this book is easy to understand for us.....It was a adventure book for anyone.

The weather was very wonderful not too hot or too cold. There were a lot of people. It's far from my homestay about 3 hours drive. My host Dad drove a car, me and mom just slept haha. We went out from home at 5:48am and arrived at the MT. at 8:16am. At 3:50pm we were out of there and arrived

Last holiday

Last holiday I watched a movie during the holidays. The name was 'Knight&Day'.The stars that played in the movie were Tom Cruiz and Cameron Diaz. The story was about Cameron Diaz who was just a normal person and her sister was going to have a wedding so she was going to meet her sister. But in the airport she met a guy. The guy was her type so she liked him but, later on she knew that he was not the kind of guy she thought. He was a spy. The spy was Tom Cruiz and he had a really important thing that he stole from the nation. So Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruiz tried to keep it safe from the bad guys. And they fell in love. The important thing had exploded because it wasn't made properly. At last, they proved how much they loved each other. It was happy ending.

Rainbows End

In my holiday I went to auckland to Rainbows End with my cousins. We went on every ride it was really fun, my boy cousin was afraid but we made him sit on one ride. I also went on the new ride. All the rides were really good. I had a really exciting holiday with my cousins. The best of all was when I went on the fear fall. It was like falling from the sky like a bird.

She wants him to change her life to become a vampire but he does not want to. He wants to protect her because he loves her. I went with my friend, we had fun and I liked it.

Planning a Trip to Rotorua - Group Learning

Our task was to plan a trip to Rotorua. We got some pamphlets about Rotorua. We spent two lessons in Esol class doing that. We enjoyed that time working together in groups. I wanna go to Rotorua.
